Constraining dark matter through 21 cm observations
Beyond reionization epoch cosmic hydrogen is neutral and can be directly observed through its 21 cm line signal. If dark matter (DM) decays or annihilates the corresponding energy input affects the hydrogen kinetic temperature and ionized fraction, and contributes to the Lyα background. The changes induced by these processes on the 21 cm signal can then be used to constrain the proposed DM cand...
متن کاملCoupled Quintessence
A new component of the cosmic medium, a light scalar field or ”quintessence ”, has been proposed recently to explain cosmic acceleration with a dynamical cosmological constant. Such a field is expected to be coupled explicitely to ordinary matter, unless some unknown symmetry prevents it. I investigate the cosmological consequences of such a coupled quintessence (CQ) model, assuming an exponent...
متن کاملQuintessence with Coupled Scalar Fields
We discuss the dynamics of a quintessence model involving two coupled scalar fields. The model presents two types of solutions, namely solutions that correspond to eternal and transient acceleration of the universe. In both cases, we obtain values for the cosmological parameters that satisfy current observational bounds as well as the nucleosynthesis constraint on the quintessence energy density.
متن کاملConstraining Van der Waals quintessence by observations
We discuss an alternative approach to quintessence modifying the usual equation of state of the cosmological fluid in order to see if going further than the approximation of perfect fluid allows to better reproduce the available data. We consider a cosmological model comprising only two fluids, namely baryons (modelled as dust) and dark matter with a Van der Waals equation of state. First, the ...
